Creating Curious Classrooms: Secondary Science for 6-12

Available On Demand

The middle and high school years are full of curiosity and exploration, and teachers must deliver high-quality instruction that engages students, encourages them to think critically, and prepares them for college and careers. In this 30-minute session of Creating Curious Classrooms, discover how to support instructional best practices (and take something off teachers’ plates!) so they can easily implement phenomena-based, active learning.

Join Eric Friberg, former science teacher and winner of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching (PAEMST), and Desiree Sasko-Sujoy, former Science and Math Coach and NOAA scientist, as they:

  • Unpack unique opportunities and challenges that admins face in middle school and high school grades
  • Demonstrate how science interactives and active learning can engage students in science and engineering practices as they explore real scientific phenomena. From asking a question to crafting an explanation of the phenomena, students can test a variety of variables and observe, measure, and analyze observable data, build models to make and test claims and then develop explanations based on evidence.
  • Ignite students’ natural curiosity and get them excited about making more real-world connections in a science unit, and then extend their learning
  • Keep it real with fully-editable interactive activities that only need a few minutes of prep, so any educator can teach science.

With 500+ ready-to-use interactive activities for Grades 6-12, students see, measure, analyze, and explore science for themselves.  Together, Pivot Interactives and Discovery Education Experience can bring science to a whole new level for teachers and students!
